(Solved) Error Ubuntu Running On Low Graphics Mode

Pada beberapa hari yang lalu, laptop milik penulis yang menggunakan sistem operasi Ubuntu 12.04 mengalami error dengan pesan ‘The system is running in low-graphics mode‘ setelah klik OK, kemudian muncul beberapa pilihan diantaranya memperbaiki setting tampilan, masuk melalui console dll. Namun setelah muncul beberapa opsi untuk memperbaiki ‘layar’ laptop menjadi crash dan tidak bisa melakukan apa-apa. Setelah googling dan mencari-cari ketemu beberapa solusi pada link http://askubuntu.com/questions/141606/how-to-fix-the-system-is-running-in-low-graphics-mode-error. Dari ask ubuntu diberikan beberapa opsi diantaranya yaitu :

– Menginstall ulang driver graphic card seperti ATI atau NVidia.
– Re-install ubuntu desktop (ini opsi donwload file yang agak besar filenya karena file-file yang dibutuhkan dan dependencies akan di download dari internet).
– reinstall greeter (not optional).
– install gdm
– delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf dan restart komputer (ini pernah saya lakukan pada monitor dengan resolusi rendah pada tulisan https://lucidlynxuser.wordpress.com/2012/12/18/cara-install-linux-ubuntu-pada-monitor-yang-out-of-range-a-k-a-jadul/)
– melakukan Run a memory check to check for memory errors (sudah dilakukan tetapi error tetap muncul)
– Memberikan sedikit ruang pada root folder dengan cara menghapus ataupun memindahkan file yang ada di dalam root folder supaya ruang bebas pada media bertambah. Cara ini berhasil dengan asumsi free space yang tersisa tersedia sekitar 200 MB sudah cukup untuk melakukan boot normal.
Berikut adalah step by step untuk melakukan pembersihan atau pemindahan pada komputer anda :
1. Booting hingga muncul opsi pemilihan GRUB kemudian pilih boot normal (opsi pada default biasanya)
2. Setelah muncul pesan error seperti pada image 1. Maka tekan Ctrl+Alt+F2 kemudian anda akan masuk ke console #2.
3. Pada halaman console terminal anda akan diminta memasukkan username : <masukkan username anda>
4. kemudian akan muncul password : <untuk password tidak ditampakkan berapa asterisk yang sudah diinput jadi agak berhati-hati supaya tidak salah input password>.
5. Setelah berhasil login maka akan muncul tanda $. dimana anda sudah berada di folder /home/<username>/
6. Untuk selanjutnya anda bisa mencoba untuk check berapa total disk yang tersedia pada folder root dengan cara ketik : df -h.

7. Jika ternyata folder root sudah penuh maka anda tinggal memindahkan data yang ada di root ke disk lain atau ke removable storage atau anda bisa menghapus file-file yang sudah tidak terpakai. Saya memilih untuk memindahkan file dengan cara : mv -r <folder atau file yang ingin dipindahkan>.

8. Jika dirasa sudah cukup tersedia free space sekitar 200 MB lebih di folder root maka anda bisa restart komputer dan booting sudah NORMAL! <selamat mencobasemoga berhasil :)>

On past days, my computer got an error report ‘The system is running in low-graphics mode‘ after click OK, then appear a bunch of choice like adjust the setting, or recover using console etc. But, the problem is after the choice appear the screen crashed so i can’t do anything like click, choose or move up or down (just to select it). After googling and searching i found some solution on this link http://askubuntu.com/questions/141606/how-to-fix-the-system-is-running-in-low-graphics-mode-error. From ask ubuntu theres a lot of way to fixed that problem like:
– Re-install graphic card for ATI or NVidia.
– Re-install ubuntu desktop (this option will download a lot of file from insternet because it search the dependencies and needed file).
– reinstall greeter (not optional).
– install gdm
– delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf dan restart computer (this one i ever do to fix the low resolution monitor problem in https://lucidlynxuser.wordpress.com/2012/12/18/cara-install-linux-ubuntu-pada-monitor-yang-out-of-range-a-k-a-jadul/)
– Do Run a memory check to check for memory errors (Usually do but didnt solved the problem).
– Make more free space on root folder. CThis way is successful with approximately free space available 200 MB are enough.
this the step by step to make free space for your computer:
1. Boot up until the GRUB screen then choose the normal boot(this option usually default)
2. After boot then the error message had shown up lets begin the repair!. Press the button Ctrl+Alt+F2 then your screen become black and you enter the console tty #2.
3. In this screen you will be ask to enter your username : <enter your username>.
4. After it you will be asked for password : <remember for the asterisk password didn’t show you must be carefull to input your password>.
5. After you succeded login, on your screen will show the $ mark, that mean you are in the folder /home/<username>/
6. Next step you can check your free disk space by input this command: df -h.
7. If your root folder are above 99 % fully populated with no more free space so you can moving or deleting the unused files. I choose to moving the file with command: mv -r <folder atau file yang ingin dipindahkan>.
8. if its sufficient with free space about 200 MB or more, you can restart your computer and now your computer can BOOTED NORMALLY! <Good luck :)>
